Microbiological safety

Lectum animal bedding during its production is thermally processed to above 90oC under the high pressure. Due to this process, unlike traditional straw, Lectum contains only traces of mould and very few microorganisms.

Every batch of animal bedding produced is tested in Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory Lab – Vet. The manufacturer standards: moisture level 8-13% Testing of Salmonella: negative Quantity of yeasts and mould: no more than 10^5 per 1g

Absorbency – up to 370% of its weight

Lectum animal bedding is made of grain straw, which due to fragmentation and extrusion under the high pressure, acquires much higher absorbency than cut straw. This allows it to bond higher doses of urine so there is less irritant ammonia and unpleasant smell in the air. It also means less frequent changing of animal bedding.

straw vs lectum bedding

Straw blades are covered with cuticle which has hydrophobic qualities. It prevents the straw from moisture absorbency. The straw absorbs water only where the cuticle is damaged
